552 Wrap-up

After visiting Richard Byrne’s blog at www.freetech4teachers.com I discovered there are many more uses for technology in my own teaching strategies than I ever thought there could be.  This blog helped me discover things such as video sites other than youtube, which are very beneficial to myself and all teachers.  I also enjoyed discovering the free guides he has posted.  Most of these guides share ways to implement technology into the classroom and what new technology there is to use with students.  I believe that based on Mr. Byrne’s blog the most useful thing I found for my class would be the tips on creating blogs and websites.  Teaching PE, I would love to starts a website or blog that students can go on to and find information about class and even healthy living.  After reading some tips my mind is racing with ideas to create a blog or website to enhance to overall learning for my students.

By using twitter for a professional purpose, I have learned that that is a lot of information out there that can be found in less than thirty seconds.  Learning how to network with other teachers around the world has given me the opportunity to become a better teacher and will allow my students to become more engaged in what we are doing.  The most interesting person I followed is Vicki Gould @elempeteacher.  This reason I found her so interesting is because she is so passionate about PE.  She posts great unit plans, games, and articles on the benefits of PE.  I found myself retweeting her post quite often during the last four weeks. I can definitely see myself continuing to use Twitter after this course.  When told that Twitter was a total game changer in the teaching profession I was a little skeptical at first, but after finding out all the ways you can use Twitter professionally I too believe it is a game changer.  I have found myself checking Twitter to find new ways to teach units and also have seen Twitter posts that I have shared with my students because it was relevant to what we were doing that day.

PE Curriculum Video

This is my curriculum video.  It is titled, What Can PE Do For You?  This video gives a brief insight of some of the activities students will participate in throughout a PE class.  I hope you enjoy!

Screencast

For my screencast assignment I chose to do a screencast showing student how to use a few different resources to create a lesson plan for a physical education class.  Students will be able to watch this presentation and should be able to complete a one day lesson for their class to enjoy.  The lesson they will create with have a warm-up and cool-down activity along with a main focus and an assessment.

Summer Activities using Animoto

Since the end of the school year is quickly approaching, I chose to use this video to remind students to stay physically active over the summer months.  I will use this video on one of the last days of school as a fun way to share ideas of activities students can do while they are not in school.  I always encourage students to keep a fitness log over the summer so they can see if they are getting enough physical activity.  The use of this video can help remind students to log the activities they are doing daily that they may not see as physical activity.

I really enjoyed using Animoto for the first time.  While I was creating my project I was thinking of many ways I can use this in my PE classes.    Animoto will be a great way to teach fundamentals and movements in any unit throughout the year.  I can also see this tool being used by students to create a movement presentation that can be presented to the class.  If you can’t tell, I am very thrilled to use Animoto in my classes.

Getting To Know The Blogger

Hello all, my name is Brian Sulzman and I am a middle school physical education teaching in Omaha, Nebraska.  I attended Colby Community College for two year before transferring to Wayne State College to finish my bachelor’s degree in K-12 Health and Physical Education.  I am not what I would call a technology savvy individual.  For my job the majority of technology that is use is basic tools with a computer and the use of an iPod for music.  Our district provides each teacher an HP laptop so I am familiar with a PC.  The version of MS office that is loaded on our laptops is Microsoft Office 2010.  I was inspired to get my master’s degree to continue my education and become a better teacher.  I chose Peru State because I like the convenience of doing everything online.   I have a very busy schedule with school as well as coaching boys basketball and baseball so this program fits my schedule perfectly.  I look forward to exploring more options with technology and continuing to integrate more into my PE classes.
